Why Do We Need to Add Scale inhibitor in RO System?

RO system

Table of Contents

RO system is to make extra pure water by 1. Filtering raw water via fine filter, UDF, CTO filters; 2. Pressurizing and let it flow through 1/10000μm RO membrane, make high concentrated water into low one; 3. Meanwhile removing all foreign matters such as heavy metal, germs, virus and etc. so it can reach physical-chemical index and hygienic standard.

RO membrane is a critical parts in RO system, in its long run, calcium and magnesium ions in water would separate out and adhere to the surface of RO membrane, scale formatting then lowering water production efficiency of RO system, damaging RO membrane. Since RO membrane is expensive, that is the reason why we have to add scale inhibitor in water to delay calcium and magnesium separation and forming water scale.

Scale inhibitor is used to realize solubilization, the agent would ionize when put it into water and generate negative charge molecular chain, combining with Ca2+ it is able to generate water soluble clathrate and chelate, increasing the difficulty for inorganic salt to dissolve, so functioning as scale inhibiting.

Scale inhibitor can effectively prevent foreign matters from subsiding and scale forming, largely improve RO system operation, increase water production quality.
